What does a virtual or phone session with one of our counsellors look like?

  • Booking: Once you book your counselling session online or over the phone you will receive an email notification showing the type of session you booked (phone or virtual) as well as the date and time of your session. (Note: The timezone is Central Standard Time.

  • Beginning a Counselling Session: At the time of your session we will either call you (for phone sessions) or you will open the reminder email and click on the “begin your online appointment” button (for virtual sessions) to access the virtual video app.

We set an intention at the beginning of each session to focus ourselves and to create a space of healing. Following this, we will ask a series of questions to guide our session.

End of a session: We discuss a plan of action for moving forward in a counselling and book a follow up session(s) if it is fitting. Next, we process payment and email you a receipt which you can use for your mental health employee benefits. (Government services are billed directly, so no receipt is needed.)

Will my employee benefits cover counselling?

Please check with your insurance benefits provider to determine if the therapist you are seeing qualifies under your specific policy. Not all insurance benefits policies cover services with all counselors.  Many plans are quite specific to a therapist’s credentials. Here are some insurance providers that our clients have had coverage under; these are specific to their plans.

  • Sun Life

  • Blue Cross

  • Great-West Life

  • Manulife

  • Treaty Mental Health Benefits— Health Canada (Non-insured Health Benefits)

  • Victim Services (Provide file # confirmation letter; Approved counselors are: Dawnali Riemer, & Sarah Sand)

  • SGI for Grief Counseling (Provide SGI claim coverage information)

Am I covered for counseling under my employee benefits plan?

1. You need to know the designation of the counsellor in order to see if it is covered.

2. Confirm the benefits with your insurance benefits provider.
a. Call your insurance benefits provider directly and ask the types of counseling coverage you have with your policy, and the dollar value of coverage per year. OR

b. Log into your insurance benefits provider account to determine the specific coverages you have for counselors’ specific designations, and the dollar value of coverage per year. (It may be located under “Health”, “Mental Health”
